An arrest has been made in the fatal shooting of a minister at Creflo Dollar’s megachurch in College Park early Wednesday. The shooting occurred inside the old chapel on the campus of World Changers church around 10:30 a.m.
According to witnesses, Greg McDowell, a 39-year-old volunteer prayer leader at the church was shot inside the old chapel — not in the famed World Changer’s chapel, where Bible study was being held. McDowell was transported to South Fulton hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
Wsbtv.com reports that 52-year-old Floyd Palmer was taken into custody an hour ago at Macy’s in the Lenox Square Mall in Buckhead, north of Atlanta.
U.S. Marshals joined with the county SWAT team in the massive manhunt for the shooter.
The suspect, Floyd Palmer, 52, is described as a “church employee who resigned in August for personal reasons,” according to a report on Wsbtv.com.
Police are on the lookout for a black Subaru in connection with the shooting, Wsbtv reports.
Nearby schools were locked down and classes were not disrupted.
It isn’t clear if Creflo Dollar was in the church at the time of the shooting. Dollar, 50, was arrested earlier this year for physically disciplining his 15-year-old daughter, Lauren.
Dollar said he spanked his daughter and wrestled her to the kitchen floor after she raised her hand at him. “I never should have been arrested,” he said.
