See How Chinese children are taken away from their families and brutalised into future Olympians [PHOTOS]

After the amazing triumph of 16-year-old Chinese swimmer Ye Shiwan, right, DAVID JONES examines the state sports programme of the Communist regime in Beijing. He finds children are plucked from schools and installed in camps where they endure a regime so relentlessly harsh that it has been compared, by those few Western observers who have managed to penetrate the obsessive secrecy with which it is guarded, to that in some 19th-century prisons. Children in a gymnastics camp are pictured centre and left.

Winning at all costs: Children are put through their paces doing punishing exercises to toughen them up

Children are trained at camps where the word 'gold' is hung on the wall to make them focus on success

But here is the difference between China and UK, they don't embrace failure as we unfortunately like to do here. I highly doubt any of these kids will grow up to be thieves or go around stabbing each other like some UK youths do. And I bet they don't complain that 'they are bored and have nothing to do' and are therefore owed youth clubs and play stations!
