Top Gear's Jeremy Clarkson is the BBC's biggest earner

The figure, calculated from the corporation’s annual report, which was published yesterday, puts Clarkson significantly ahead of reported figures for other highly paid stars at the corporation.
Chat show host Graham Norton and Match of the Day presenter Gary Lineker are thought to earn about £2million a year each from the BBC, with Alan Hansen also believed to be taking home in excess of £1million.
Clarkson’s total pay amounted to approximately £3.5million.
The figures will reignite controversy about so-called “talent pay” at the BBC.
The corporation has been making concerted efforts to cut the amount paid to its top stars since an outcry over the £6million a year that was reportedly paid to Jonathan Ross before his departure from the BBC in 2010.
It shouldn't be underestimated the amount of revenue that the BBC receives from selling shows such as Top Gear to foreign media.   As such, Clarkson is worth every penny, otherwise he'd either not be getting as much, or he'd be replaced by someone else.
Does anybody seriously believe that the BBC pay him such a high sum because they just think it's a good idea??
