Rio Ferdinand Charged by FA For Ashley Cole 'Choc Ice' Twitter Comment

Rio Ferdinand has been charged by the Football Association for the choc ice remark he made about Chelsea defender Ashley Cole on Twitter.

Earlier this month, the Manchester United defender agreed with another Twitter user who branded Ashley a "choc ice" in light of his involvement in John Terry's racism trial.

Despite trying to defend his comments by claiming he meant Ashley was being "fake," the FA have charged Rio with improper conduct. According to the Telegraph, Rio is more likely to fined than banned if he is found guilty. He is expected to discuss the charge with the club's legal advisers before responding.
"The FA has today charged Manchester United’s Rio Ferdinand with improper conduct in relation to comments posted on Twitter," a statement by the FA read.

"The allegation is that the player acted in a way which was improper and/or bought the game into disrepute by making comments which included a reference to ethnic origin and/or colour and/or race."
"Ferdinand has until 4pm on Aug 2 to respond to the charge."
