Hip-hop rapper-turned-reggae-wannabe Snoop Dogg yesterday announced he’s changing his name — to Snoop Lion — after receiving the new moniker during a “born-again’’ experience with a Rastafarian priest.
“I didn’t want to be Snoop Dogg on a reggae track . . . I wanted to bury Snoop Dogg and become Snoop Lion, but I didn’t know that until I went to the temple and received the name . . . from the . . . priest,” said the rapper also formerly known as Snoop Doggy Dog and nicknamed the “Doggfather.’’


Snoop, 40, whose real name is Calvin Cordozar Broadus Jr., had visited Rastafarian priests during a February trip to Jamaica to film a documentary about himself called “Reincarnated.’’

The California-born singer and open marijuana user said he connected with the island’s late reggae king and feels like “Bob Marley reincarnated.’’
