SAD NEWS: Boy and girl found dead next to their father's body on Hampshire bridleway
The bodies of two young children have been found next to their dead father in an isolated country lane, police said today.
Detectives believe they are Michael Pedersen and his two children Ben Pedersen, 7, and Freya Pedersen, 6, who were discovered last night near a car on a bridleway in Newton Stacey, Hampshire.
It is understood police suspect the 51-year-old businessman killed his children before taking his own life.
Mr Pedersen, who ran a logistics company, is registered living in Ashford, Middlesex with his wife Erica, a 43-year-old driving instructor. However, it appears he may have recently left the family home as police gave his most recent address as Chertsey, Surrey.
An elderly couple who lived next door to the Pedersens in Ashford described them today as a “normal couple”.
The son of the elderly couple, who asked not to be named, said: “My mum is in floods of tears, she used to look after the two children and is absolutely distraught.”
Today, the crime scene near the town of Andover was cordoned off while officers inspected the scene.
The Coroner has been informed of the deaths and post mortem examinations are due to take place.
Det Sup Tony Harris, said: “We are currently investigating the circumstances surrounding this terrible incident and are working to establish what has led to these tragic deaths.
“We are treating this as an isolated incident and we do not believe anyone else was involved.”
“The families of Michael, Ben and Freya have been informed and specialist Family Liaison Officers from Hampshire Constabulary, and officers from Surrey Police, are working with them to provide support and keep them updated as the investigation progresses.
“Our thoughts are with the family and friends of those involved at this extremely difficult time and I would ask that they be allowed to come to terms with what has happened in a dignified and respectful way.”
